Yesterday, the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) announced the winners of its Rail Rodeo Competition, which was held June 4 in Pittsburgh in conjunction with APTA’s Rail Transit Conference.

Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) won the Rail Transit Achievement Award, which recognizes the operations and maintenance team with the highest combined score among all competing agencies.

Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority took the operators’ crown, which rewards the participant with the highest score for train operation skills, and knowledge of safety regulations, train equipment, track right of way and procedures. SEPTA and Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LA MTA) took second and third place, respectively

Meanwhile, Maryland Transit Administration took first place in the maintainers’ competition, which judges a team’s ability to troubleshoot maintenance problems. LA MTA took second place and MTA New York City Transit, third place.

Eighteen North American rail transit agencies participated in this year’s rodeo.
