Rail News: Rail Industry Trends
The results are in from the American Public Transportation Association’s (APTA) 15th annual Rail Rodeo held June 2 at the Toronto Transit Commission’s Greenwood Yard in conjunction with APTA’s 2007 Rail Conference. Twenty transit agencies participated in the competition.
The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) took the top honor, winning the Rail Transit Team Achievement Award, which recognizes the operator and maintainer team with the highest combined score of all transit agencies.
SEPTA also placed first in the Operators’ Competition, which measures participants’ skills in the areas of train operation, safety regulation knowledge, train equipment, and track right-of-way rules and procedures. The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority took second and Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority, third.
In the Maintainers’ Competition, which judges participants’ ability to troubleshoot maintenance problems, the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority took first place, Bay Area Rapid Transit, second, and Denver’s Regional Transportation District, third.
