SEPTA set to launch largest-ever service expansion
advertisement
The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) recently announced plans to carry out its largest-ever service expansion by launching 65 rail and bus service improvement initiatives.
The agency will implement most of the initiatives in September and November. SEPTA plans to provide more frequent service, as well as additional peak, off-peak and weekend trains, and add new late-night service on three Regional Rail lines. The changes will address overcrowding, as well as growing employment, and retail and residential markets.
Next year, SEPTA also will begin introducing 120 new Silverliner V Regional Rail cars, the agency's first purchase of new cars in more than 40 years, according to a press release.
The upgrades are possible because of Act 44, a bill passed last year by the Pennsylvania legislature that provides long-term, dedicated funding for statewide public transportation systems.
