Alstom recently obtained a $2.8 billion contract to supply 80 double-decker high-speed trains to French national railway company SNCF. The contract includes an option for up to 40 additional trainsets, which could bring the total value to $4.2 billion.

The trains will operate up to 200 mph on the French, German, Swiss and Luxembourg rail networks. The vehicles will feature signaling equipment compatible with all European networks, as well as traction equipment adapted to various currents. Alstom plans to begin delivering the trains in 2009.
