Class Is employed 152,426 people in the United States as of mid-June, down 11.55 percent year over year and 0.20 percent compared with mid-May, according to the Surface Transportation Board.Three of the six employment categories reflected workforce increases in mid-June compared with mid-May: The number of executives, officials and staff assistants rose 0.14 percent; the number of professional and administrative employees increased 0.93 percent; and the number of transportation (train and engine) employees grew 0.11 percent.Categories posting decreases compared with mid-May were maintenance of equipment and stores employees, down 1.28 percent; MOW and structures, down 0.25 percent; and transportation (other than train and engine), down 0.71 percent.Year over year, all reported categories reflected decreases: executives, officials and staff assistants, down 6.42 percent; professional and administrative, down 5.78 percent; MOW and structures, down 6.05 percent; maintenance of equipment and stores, down 8.22 percent; transportation (other than train and engine), down 8.71 percent; and transportation (train and engine), down 18.71 percent.
