STB adds export traffic to carload waybill sampling
advertisement
Surface Transportation Board Oct. 24 revised its carload waybill sampling procedures, which are used to sample traffic moving over the U.S. rail system.
Railroads now are required to include Canadian or Mexican export traffic moving through the United States in the board's annual carload waybill sample.
U.S. railroads that annually terminate 4,500 carloads or more are required to report random sample data on moves terminating on their lines.
Due to increasing rail traffic between the United States, and Mexico and Canada, STB determined that the waybill sample would be more accurate by capturing all traffic moving through the United States.
