On Friday, the Surface Transportation Board (STB) announced its Section of Environmental Analysis and the Washington State Department of Transportation issued a final environmental assessment for the Columbia Basin Railroad’s proposed track rehabilitation project in Grant County, Wash.

The Northern Columbia Basin Railroad Project calls for acquiring and establishing an 11.5-mile line by building one track segment and rehabilitating another. The short line plans to construct a rail segment (known as Segment 2) from the south side of the Port of Moses Lake's Grant County International Airport to an industrial area on the east and north sides of the airport, and upgrade an existing track segment (known as Segment 3).

The project will enhance and improve rail access to industries in the Moses Lake, Wash., area, according to Columbia Basin Railroad.

The final environmental report recommends various mitigation measures to minimize the project’s environmental impacts. The STB will consider the report before issuing a final decision on the project.
