STB arm issues Draft EIS on new Utah line

The Surface Transportation Board’s (STB) Section of Environmental Analysis (SEA) recently issued a Draft Environmental Impact Statement (Draft EIS) for a 43-mile line in Utah.

Proposed by the Six County Association of Governments, the line would run between a Union Pacific Railroad mainline connection near Juab to Salina. The association plans to build the line to provide rail service to local industries, including a Southern Utah Fuel Co. coal mine, that currently use trucks.

The STB is accepting written public comments on the Draft EIS until Aug. 22. The SEA then will prepare a Final EIS that responds to comments and final recommendations.
