STB re-schedules hearing on common-carrier obligation tied to haz-mat moves

The Surface Transportation Board (STB) now will hold a public hearing July 22 in Washington, D.C., to examine railroads' common-carrier obligation associated with transporting hazardous materials.
The board originally planned to conduct the hearing July 16.
The hearing will provide a forum for a detailed discussion of issues pertaining to the movement of toxic by inhalation hazards and other hazardous materials. The common-carrier obligation is railroads' federally mandated duty to provide transportation or service per a reasonable request, the STB said.
In April, the STB held a hearing on the general topic of railroads' common-carrier obligation.
