Rail News: Rail Industry Trends
On Oct. 19, the Surface Transportation Board will hold a public hearing in Washington, D.C., to discuss the Staggers Act, which will mark its 25th anniversary next month.
Entitled “The 25th Anniversary of the Staggers Rail Act of 1980: A Review and Look Ahead,” the hearing will “provide a forum for the expression of views on the impact, effectiveness and the future” of the act, according to a prepared statement.
“The hearing is not intended to offer a forum for discussion
of pending cases, but rather an opportunity for participants to address broader issues regarding the Staggers Act,” said STB Chairman Roger Nober.
The board is inviting representatives from large and small railroads, rail shippers, local communities, and state and federal governments to attend the hearing.
