STB schedules public meeting to review freight-rail competition study

The Surface Transportation Board (STB) will hold a public meeting Nov. 6 to discuss the results of a study conducted by Christensen Associates on the current state of freight-rail competition in the United States.
The board will post the study on its Web site (www.stb.dot.gov) prior to the meeting.
In September 2007, the STB contracted Christensen Associates to provide a comprehensive analysis of wide-ranging freight-rail issues, including competition, capacity and the interplay between the two. The study also examined various regulatory policy alternatives.
To conduct the study, Christensen Associates conducted detailed interviews with many key industry stakeholders.
