STB seeks feedback on new role established by passenger-rail act

On Feb. 11, the Surface Transportation Board (STB) will hold a public hearing to obtain comments on the board's new responsibilities outlined in the Passenger Rail Investment and Improvement Act of 2008, which was signed into law in October.
The legislation broadens the STB's role in disputes between Amtrak, commuter-rail operators, host railroads or states with respect to cost allocations, service quality, compensation, liability and other service provision terms.
