STB to gauge interest in AAR-organized interchange issue meetings
advertisement
Surface Transportation Board Jan. 15 announced plans to issue a Federal Register notice in the near future asking interested parties to file, both with the board and Association of American Railroads, notices of intent to participate in a meeting or series of meetings aimed at improving car interchanges between railroads.
To foster practical interchange-issue solutions but not encourage a collective discussion of specific rates for specific situations, STB encourages individuals with railroad operational backgrounds to participate.
After receiving notices of intent — which would include a brief summary of parties' positions and preliminary recommendations — AAR would adopt a new procedural schedule for convening meetings and report back to STB.
The board last month asked AAR to help organize meetings among railroads, shippers and other interested parties to address interchange delays, in an attempt to resolve problems within the private sector.
