Rail News: Rail Industry Trends
Sacramento Regional Transit District (RT) recently sent a request for qualifications to more than 60 transit-oriented developers throughout the country.
The agency is working with the city of Sacramento, Sacramento County, Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency and community leaders to select developers for transit-oriented development projects.
In 2002, RT adopted land use plans for properties within a quarter mile of all 21 existing light-rail stations. The Power Inn, Butterfield and Florin light-rail stations have been slated for development, and the board recently approved development plans for the Royal Oaks station.
"The type of mixed use development we look for includes high-density residential, retail, commercial and office," said Fred Arnold, RT’s director of real estate, in a prepared statement. "This type of development enhances neighborhoods and the communities served, and creates an area where people can work, shop and go for entertainment."
