Sacramento Regional Transit District revises light-rail extension's opening date

Sacramento Regional Transit District (SacRT) officials recently announced plans to delay the opening of a $230.5 million, 11-mile light-rail extension from downtown Sacramento to Folsom, Calif., until Oct. 15, 2005. The extension previously was scheduled to open earlier next year.

Property rights negotiations are causing the delay, authority officials said in a prepared statement, adding that SacRT will need time to test the line and train workers after the project is complete.

The project includes building 10 stations, improving signals and purchasing 14 light-rail vehicles.

The revised date will coincide with the opening of another half-mile extension to the Sacramento Valley Station.
