The Sacramento Regional Transit District (SacRT) recently contracted Lockwood, Andrews & Newman Inc. (LAN) to serve as prime consultant for the second phase of the South Corridor light-rail extension.

The 4.3-mile, four-station line will run from the Meadow View station to Consumnes River College. The double-tracked corridor will connect the southeastern section of the city to downtown and connect to SacRT’s existing rail system.

LAN will be responsible for overall project management, rail geometry plans, project controls, track and station grading and drainage, and agency coordination.

SacRT expects to receive funding for the $226 million project through the Federal Transit Administration’s New Starts program. Construction is expected to begin in fourth-quarter 2009 and conclude in 2011.
