Sacramento transit district proposes fare increase

advertisement

Next week, Sacramento Regional Transit District (SacRT) will hold a public hearing on its fiscal-year 2006 budget, which includes a fare increase.

During the past 18 years, the agency has raised fares only once; in 2000, when the base fare increased from $1.25 to $1.50.

SacRT has proposed increasing the base fare from $1.50 to $2; daily pass, from $3.50 to $6; and monthly pass, from $60 to $80. The agency also plans to introduce a $40 semi-monthly pass. The increases could take effect in January 2006, or be implemented in a two-step phase in September, and July 2006 or January 2007.
