On Sept. 28, Massachusetts Central Railroad Corp. and Wildwood Reload commemorated the opening of a salt storage building in South Barre, Mass.
The 34,000-square-foot facility is the first phase for Phoenix Plaza, a rail-served industrial park to be established in South Barre, according to the short line. Massachusetts Central and Wildwood Reload plan to develop a 100-acre park on the former Barre Wool Co. property.
The park’s first tenant, American Rock Salt, recently began moving rail cars of salt to the new storage building. The company needs about 400 loaded cars to fill the facility, according to Massachusetts Central.
