San Diego MTS conducts emergency response drill at underground station

Next month, San Diego’s Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) will open its 5.8-mile Mission Valley East light-rail extension, which will include an underground station at San Diego State University (SDSU). Yesterday, the agency readied itself and emergency responders for the extension’s grand opening.

MTS held an emergency response drill at the university station in conjunction with SDSU Police, the San Diego police and fire departments, and other emergency response agencies. The drill began with a simulation of a bomb detonating on a trolley as it pulled into the underground station.

At the smoke-filled station, emergency personnel addressed "injured" passengers, as well as family members and other people at the scene to familiarize participating agencies with emergency response practices.
