The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) board recently adopted the route alignment for the proposed Central Subway route to Chinatown.
The second phase of the Third Street Light Rail Project, the Central Subway will run from 4th and King streets in San Francisco to Chinatown, linking Little Hollywood and Visitacion Valley to Union Square and Chinatown. The route includes three subway stations and one surface station.
The alignment was selected from three alternatives identified in the Draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement/Environmental Impact Report, which was released last October.
The Central Subway will enable SFMTA to reduce travel times between the 4th and King Caltrain station and Chinatown from 20 minutes to seven minutes.
