After spending 18 months collecting and analyzing data, conducting market research and obtaining passenger input, the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) has released a draft proposal of its Transit Effectiveness Project (TEP). The program is the first comprehensive review of SFMTA’s system in more than 25 years.

The agency plans to use its findings to improve service reliability, reduce travel times, and add new or improve existing routes to better reflect changing travel patterns in San Francisco. Under the program’s draft service and route proposals, 80 percent of SFMTA peak-period riders would have shorter wait times for trains, buses and streetcars.

In late spring, agency officials will present its TEP proposals to the board for review. SFMTA could begin implementing route changes by July 2009.
