Santa Clara County Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) recently awarded a contract to HNTB Corp. to provide preliminary engineering services for a 10.3-mile Bay Area Rapid Transit line extension.
The project is the first phase of a 16.3-mile, $4.1 billion line extension to Milipitas, downtown San Jose and Santa Clara, Calif. Estimated to carry 83,600 daily passengers, the extended line is expected to attract more businesses to the Silicon Valley.
The project primarily is being funded by VTA, with an 80 percent local match from Measure A, a half-cent sales tax for transit investments during the next 30 years approved by Santa Clara County voters in 2000.
