Early next month, the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority and Caltrain will kick off a year-long, $35 million construction project at two Palo Alto Caltrain stations. The project calls for improving track capacity and safety.
At the California Avenue Station, crews will replace the current center-boarding platform with outside boarding platforms on either side of the tracks, and build a fence in between the tracks. Workers also will construct a pedestrian underpass for riders to cross between the platforms. Currently, only one train can serve the station at a time because of the station’s platform configuration.
In addition, the agencies plan to modify existing pedestrian underpasses and ramps, add and ADA-accessible ramp, and extend platforms at the Palo Alto station and replace several bridges.
