Earth Tech Inc. recently awarded a subcontract to V&A Consulting Engineers Inc. to conduct corrosion studies and develop corrosion control measures for stations under construction along Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority’s $4 billion Silicon Valley Rapid Transit Corridor.

V&A will be responsible for developing a plan to control stray currents from power systems at all stations along the 16.3-mile corridor, which will extend Bay Area Rapid Transit service to Milpitas, San Jose and Santa Clara. The corrosion control firm also will evaluate the impact that potential stray currents could have on stations, third-party structures and buried utilities, and soil/water corrosion levels. V&A will identify specific protective measures for stray current mitigation and corrosion control, and implement them during the design phase.

Earth Tech is providing preliminary engineering, final design and construction services for three aboveground and four underground stations along the corridor, which is scheduled to open in 2015.
