Santa Clara VTA implements sustainability program
advertisement
The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) board recently approved a sustainability program under which the agency will promote natural resource conservation, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions and pollution.
VTA is working with the Santa Clara Valley Water District and Pacific Gas & Electric Co. to conduct facility audits to identify ways to save energy and cut water/sewer use. The authority also is considering the installation of solar power at facilities, and plans to implement public education programs to promote the environmental benefits of public transit and support transit-oriented development along major transit corridors.
In addition, VTA plans to establish benchmarks to measure the sustainability program’s performance and report progress on an annual basis.
