Santa Clara VTA notes ridership gains in August

Ridership on the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority's (VTA) light-rail and bus systems typically declines in the summer. Not this year.
In August, the agency carried 3.8 million passengers system wide, a 2.6 percent increase compared with August 2007's total. Average weekday ridership reached 145,228, up 6.6 percent. VTA registered a 2 percent gain on its light-rail system, which averaged 36,146 passengers each weekday.
