Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) recently completed a final environmental report for the $4 billion Silicon Valley Rapid Transit Corridor project.
VTA plans to extend Bay Area Rapid Transit service from the future Warm Springs Station in Fremont to Milpitas, San Jose and Santa Clara, Calif.
The line would include seven stations, and a maintenance and vehicle storage yard in San Jose/Santa Clara. The line also might include a future connection to the Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport.
Service on the extension could begin in 2013. The project would be funded through VTA’s Measure A local sales tax, the state of California’s Traffic Congestion Relief Program and federal dollars.
