Santa Clara VTA to launch two grade-separation projects

advertisement

The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority recently announced plans to grade-separate two crossings in Fremont, Calif.

The $19.6 million project will be funded through the California Transportation Commission, which allocated the funds as part of the $250 million Highway-Railroad Safety Crossing Account included in the Proposition 1B transportation bond measure passed by state voters in 2006.

VTA will build two-span railroad bridges over two Fremont roads. One project calls for separating and depressing the bridge under Union Pacific Railroad tracks; the other calls for depressing a road beneath the tracks. The grade separations will reduce road congestion, improve traffic flow and accommodate a future Bay Area Rapid Transit extension to San Jose.
