The Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs recently approved the National Capital Transportation Amendments Act of 2007 (S. 1446), which will provide federal funding for Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) capital improvements and maintenance.

Co-sponsored by the Washington, D.C.-area’s entire congressional delegation, S. 1446 would provide $1.5 billion over 10 years to the authority. The bill would renew the federal government’s funding commitment to WMATA, which was built primarily to serve government workers.
