Senate committee approves TEA-21 reauthorization bill

Yesterday, the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs committee approved the transit portion of the Senate’s Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century (TEA-21) reauthorization bill.

The legislation would provide $51.6 billion in transit funding through fiscal-year 2009. The Senate’s $283.9 billion bill is the same amount as the House’s version — Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users — but that legislation includes $52.3 billion for transit.

The reauthorization bill is expected to reach the Senate floor after April 19.
