The Norwegian National Rail Administration and Finnish Rail Administration recently purchased Comverse Technology Inc. subsidiary Comverse’s voicemail and short message service center systems based on Siemens Information and Communication Mobile Group’s GSM-R system.
A wireless Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) adapted for railroads, GSM-R is the standard railroad communications system in Europe, according to a prepared statement. The wireless system is designed to enable railroad operators to communicate with each other on high-speed trains throughout large networks.
