Siemens Transportation Systems Inc. recently shipped the first of 16 S70 light-rail vehicles to the Charlotte Area Transit System, which will operate the cars on the new LYNX system.
The low-floor vehicles are designed to reach speeds of 65 mph and carry 236 passengers. Transit agencies in Houston and San Diego currently operate S70 vehicles.
Schedule to open in fall 2007, the 9.6-mile, 15-station LYNX line will run from downtown Charlotte, N.C., to Interstate 485.
