Siemens lands $84 million contract to build LRVs for Edmonton extension

The city of Edmonton, Alberta, recently awarded an $84 million contract to Siemens Transportation Systems to manufacture 26 SD160 light-rail vehicles.
To operate on a light-rail extension slated for a 2009 opening, the high-floor vehicles will feature diagnostics, passenger information and surveillance systems.
Siemens will manufacture the vehicles at its Sacramento, Calif., facility and deliver them by May 2008.
