Siemens obtains record LRV contract from Utah Transit Authority
advertisement
In February, Siemens Transportation Systems Inc. announced it had received its largest light-rail vehicle order ever — a $184 million contract from the Regional Transportation District of Denver to build 55 SD160 vehicles. Now, the car builder has blown that record out of the water after obtaining a $277 million contract from the Utah Transit Authority (UTA) to supply 77 S70 light-rail vehicles during the next four years.
The contract includes options for up to 180 additional cars. UTA purchased the vehicles as part of its FrontLines 2015 program, which calls for building 70 miles of rail during the next seven years, including four new light-rail lines. The vehicles will be delivered in time for the start of revenue service on each line.
