Siemens Transportation Systems Group recently won a $153 million order from Australia's Queensland Rail for 25 heavy-haul electric locomotives.

Siemens will build the locomotives at its Allach, Germany, plant and begin delivering units in 2009.

A freight-rail and logistics service provider, Queensland Rail plans to expand its locomotive fleet serving the Goonyella coal system in central Queensland. Next year, the railroad will take delivery of 20 locomotives ordered from Siemens in 2006.
