Siemens to build eight high-speed trains for Russian Railways

advertisement

Siemens’ Transportation Systems Group has landed a $765.5 million contract to supply eight 600-passenger high-speed trains to the Russian Railways and maintain the vehicles for 30 years.

Designed to travel more than 150 mph, the 10-car, Velaro-type trains will operate on a Moscow-to-St. Petersburg route and future Moscow-to-Nizhny Novgorod line. Some of the trains will be equipped to operate on DC- and AC-electrified lines.

Siemens will build the trains at its Erlangen and Krefeld-Uerdingen, Germany plants. The vehicles will be delivered by 2010.
