The Russian Railways (RZD) recently reached an initial agreement with Siemens Transportation Systems to supply 60 high-speed trains. The railway expects to sign a $1.5 billion delivery contract in summer.
Designed to travel up to 180 mph, the trains will operate mainly on RZD’s Moscow-to-St. Petersburg and St. Petersburg-to-Helsinki routes. Siemens will manufacture the trains in Russia and use Russian suppliers. The company plans to deliver the first train in late 2007.
