Rail News: Rail Industry Trends
Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) recently awarded a $30 million contract to Siemens Transportation Systems Inc. to supply 24 thyristor controlled rectifier substations for the agency’s Southeast and Northwest corridor expansions. The contract includes an option for 14 additional substations, which distribute power to light-rail vehicles.
Siemens’ Sitras Thyristor Controlled Rectifier units are designed to maintain a substation’s supply voltage at an almost constant level, and reduce voltage drop so substations can be placed further apart.
Siemens is scheduled to deliver the first substation by October 2008; all 24 will be completed by 2010.
