Central Midland Railway Co. (CMRC) recently filed a notice of exemption with Surface Transportation Board to lease from Union Pacific Railroad and operate an 8.65-mile line and related industrial tracks.

Known as the Lackland Subdivision, the line extends from Rock Island Junction to Vigus, Mo.

CMRC, which began operations Jan. 2, 2001, has an agreement with Missouri Central Railroad Co. under which CMRC operates 244.5 track miles owned by the Missouri Central and 33.5 track miles owned by UP.

CMRC interchanges with UP, Burlington Northern Santa Fe, Norfolk Southern Railway and CSX Transportation.
