Smart Card Alliance names new board leaders, members

Last week, the Smart Card Alliance elected its 2005-2006 board executive committee and members at the organization’s annual conference in Miami.

The alliance elected:
• Greg Garback, Washington Metropolitan Area Transportation Authority executive officer, department of finance, board chairman;
• Linda Brown, Infineon Technologies manager of business development, vice chairman;
• Mike Weekes, IBM Global Smart Card Solutions principal, treasurer;
• Alex Giakoumis, Amtel Corp. director of corporate business development-smart card and secure microcontroller ICs, secretary;
• Francine Dubois, Oberthur Card Systems vice president of marketing, assistant treasurer;
• Wendy Humphrey, First Data Corp. vice president of transaction devices, assistant secretary; and
• Bryan Ichikawa, Unisys solutions architect, technology vice chair.

The board also elected or re-elected the following: Kevin Gillick, head of corporate Marketing for Datacard Group; Mark McGovernn, chief technologist for Lockheed Martin; Bob Merkert, VP of sales, Americas for SCM Microsystems; and Ernie Berger, president of Gemplus North America.

The board’s 2006 priorities include addressing how smart cards can resolve public security and privacy concerns, continuing cross-industry discussions on common business applications and technology standards, and discussing issues that influence the adoption of smart cards in the United States and Latin America.
