Sound Transit completes intermodal station
advertisement
Sound Transit recently introduced commuter-rail service at its new Tacoma Dome Station, adding the final piece to an intermodal facility at Freighthouse Square.
The station now connects Sounder commuter-rail, Tacoma Link light-rail and ST Express regional-bus service with Pierce Transit bus service, Greyhound and Amtrak.
Across the street from a 2,400-stall parking garage, the new commuter-rail platform features a wheelchair access ramp and canopies. For the past three years, passengers have been using a temporary platform at a nearby Amtrak station.
The station will enable Sound Transit to extend service to South Tacoma and Lakewood, Wash.
Sound Transit also recently completed a $12 million track and signal improvement project between Burlington Northern Santa Fe’s mainline and the Tacoma tracks at Freighthouse Square.
