Sound Transit recently elected Pierce County Executive John Ladenburg chairman, succeeding King County Executive Ron Sims. Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels and Everett City council member Mark Olson were elected vice chairs. The electees will begin serving Jan. 1.

Ladenburg currently serves as Sound Transit’s vice chair. Prior to being elected county executive, he worked as an attorney.

The longest-serving member of the board, Nickels was elected mayor of Seattle in 2001. Olson serves as an attorney specializing in general litigation.

The 18-member board includes 17 local elected officials from Sound Transit’s service area and the state secretary of transportation.
