Sound Transit is seeking public comment on proposed fares for the new Link light-rail system.

The agency plans to implement a distance-based fare structure with base ticket prices between $1.75 and $2. The maximum cost of a one-way ticket between downtown Seattle and Sea-Tac Airport would be $2.75.

The Link system is scheduled to open between downtown Seattle and Tukwila, Wash., in July, with an extension to Sea-Tac International Airport set to open by the end of the year. Later this month, Sound Transit plans to break ground on the University Link, a 3.15-mile extension between downtown and the University of Washington, which is scheduled to be complete in 2016. Future extensions are planned east to Bellevue and Redmond's Overlake Transit Center, north to Lynwood and south to Federal Way.
