South Carolina Department of Commerce June 11 named Daniel Green president of South Carolina Public Railways, effective June 17.
Green will be responsible for managing the state's rail network, which includes 15.5-mile East Cooper and Berkeley Railroad Co., 26-mile Port Royal Railroad, 12-mile Port Utilities Railroad and 10-mile Port Terminal Railroad. He also will assist in economic development issues for the commerce department, which owns the short lines.
Green since 1985 served CSX Transportation in various positions, most recently as resident vice president for state relations and economic development, South Carolina. He also served eight years as a special assistant to West Virginia's governor, and currently is a member of South Carolina High Speed Rail's Advisory Committee.
"We look forward to working with [Green] in fostering a positive business climate with an excellent intermodal transportation system," said Secretary of Commerce Charles Way Jr. in a prepared statement.
