The Southern Railway of British Columbia Ltd. (SRY) will obtain $4.6 million from the Canadian government to help fund a $10 million rail-barge ramp project.
To be built at the railroad's Annacis Island, B.C., terminal, the ramp will handle rail cars and trailers.
The federal government recently announced plans to provide up to $20.9 million through the Asia-Pacific Gateway and Corridor Initiative Transportation Infrastructure Fund for five short-sea shipping and two road projects in British Columbia's lower mainland.
A Washington Cos. subsidiary, SRY owns more than 125 miles of track in the lower mainland and Fraser Valley, and interchanges with Canadian National Railway Co., Canadian Pacific Railway, BNSF Railway Co. and Union Pacific Railroad.
