advertisement
Union Pacific Railroad plans to hold a golden spike-driving ceremony May 10 at 11 am in Omaha. Neb., to celebrate construction of the railroad's new 19-story, 1.2 million-square-foot headquarters.
UP Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Dick Davidson, Omaha Mayor Mike Fahey, state Sen. Doug Kristensen and Gov. Mike Johanns are invited to take turns driving a three-foot golden spike into the headquarter's excavated floor.
The ceremony also would mark the 133rd anniversary of the original golden spike, which UP and Central Pacific Railroad officials drove in Promontory Summit, Utah, to celebrate the first transcontinental railroad.
