St. Louis Metro raises fares

On June 28, St. Louis’ Metro will increase its base MetroLink light-rail fares from $1.25 to $1.50.

The agency also will increase weekly pass fares from $14.50 to $15.50 and monthly pass fares, from $45 to $50.

The fare hikes will generate an additional $2 million in revenue and help Metro overcome a $6 million fiscal-year 2005 budget shortfall.

"We continue to be challenged by flat or declining local sales taxes, and our expenses, like fuel costs, continue to climb," Said Metro President and Chief Executive Officer Larry Salci in a prepared statement.
