StarTrak to equip Tropicana's cars with tracking systems

advertisement

StarTrak L.L.C. Aug. 13 announced it was awarded a contract by Tropicana Products Inc. to install more than 200 StarTrak RT-2000 ReeferTrakÆ tracking and monitoring systems on the shipper's refrigerated rail-car fleet.

The satellite-based systems would enable Tropicana to monitor and control its temperature-controlled shipments between Florida and Jersey City, N.J., and Cincinnati distribution centers, and monitor cars' rail handling and ride quality.

StarTrak would provide Tropicana immediate notification of refrigeration-unit exceptions and alerts through the supplier's Web site. And each car would be analyzed through pre-trip diagnostics based on geographic location, a function to be performed each time a car nears Tropicana's Bradenton and Fort Pierce, Fla., loading points.
