Rail News: Rail Industry Trends
Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick recently signed a the Massachusetts Mobility Compact to prompt nine agencies to better coordinate transportation planning, design, construction and operations.
Agencies signing the compact include the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority, Department of Conservation and Recreation, Executive Office of Transportation and Public Works, Massachusetts Highway Department, Massachusetts Turnpike Authority, Massachusetts Port Authority, Massachusetts Aeronautics Commission, Registry of Motor Vehicles and Massachusetts Association of Regional Transit Authorities.
Compact members will work to increase mobility for people and goods throughout the state; adopt administrative efficiencies and program improvement initiatives between the agencies; and share best practices
The agencies already have started meeting on a monthly basis. The compact will issue a progress report twice a year.
So far, the agencies have established three working groups to seek ways to share information technology resources, promote cooperation between agencies to use green technologies and improve energy efficiency, and promote information sharing on agency asset management practices. The group also has established a Transportation Security Roundtable, which is reviewing security coordination among the agencies.
