Yesterday, the Intermodal Association of North America (IANA) presented the 2005 Silver Kingpin Award to Greg and Judy Stefflre during the 2005 Intermodal Expo/TransComp’s opening session in Anaheim, Calif. The award recognizes the couple — the first duo and initial motor carrier veterans to receive the honor — for their career-long contributions to the intermodal industry.

After the Stefflres purchased a small Los Angeles trucking company more than 20 years ago, Judi Stefflre directed the business, now Rail Delivery Services, toward intermodal drayage services. A lawyer-turned-trucker who helped form IANA and the ATA Intermodal Council, Greg Stefflre developed the Uniform Intermodal Interchange Agreement (UIIA) — the industry’s only standard intermodal contract. He continues to serve on the UIIA’s executive committee.

“More important than their individual achievements, Judi and Greg embody the spirit of what intermodalism is designed to be – a true partnership,” said IANA Chairman Barry Michaels in a prepared statement.

Past Silver Kingpin winners include long-time Mi-Jack Products Inc. employee Raymond Tippit Sr., Rail Management Services Inc. President John Gray and Progressive Railroading co-founder Frank Richter.
